Our Annual Celebration A Great Success!

July 3rd – Our annual celebration on the Fifth Anniversary of the Greenbelt was a resounding success in so many ways. Our keynote speaker, the Hon. Jim Bradley, Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing applauded our achievements and spoke passionately about the value of Ontario's Greenbelt.

About two hundred people in attendance celebrated Mayor Hazel McCallion's announcement that Mississauga will be moving forward to have the Credit River Valley be included as part of the Provincial Greenbelt. Sierra Club Peel's hard work in convincing our government leaders of the Greenbelt's value has paid off with Mayor McCallion's historic announcement.

Also, we celebrated Sierra Club Peel's successful delegation to Brampton's Environmental Advisory Committee as the Committee passed a motion supporting growing the Greenbelt.

Those two major achievements together with our success in influencing major policy improvements in protecting natural areas have made 2010 a banner year for our club.
